Five ways to split

The cut is always tied to an edge you select — running parallel to it, or perpendicular to it, depending on the method.

How to use it

Import the parcel

Choose the file and the coordinate system it was recorded in. GeoJSON and KML are read as WGS84 automatically. From a DXF, the largest closed polyline is used.

Check it on the map

If the parcel lands in the wrong place, change the coordinate system or turn on Swap X/Y — many CAD files store easting and northing the other way round.

Choose method and edge

Five methods; the reference edge is picked with chips and highlighted orange. For count and area splits it sets the cut direction; for frontage and road access it is the street.

Compute

Enter a target area, a part count, or draw the line, then compute. With a hand-drawn line you can drag the points and watch the areas update live.

Review and export

Each part shows its own area and frontage. Export to DXF for CAD, CSV for a spreadsheet, GeoJSON or KML for GIS and Google Earth.

The small things that decide it

The reference edge changes the result

The same parcel and the same target area produce a differently shaped part depending on which edge you pick as reference. For an area split the cut runs parallel to it; for a frontage split, perpendicular.

Swap X/Y is not a broken file

Surveying often writes Y (east) then X (north), while CAD expects the reverse. That is why an imported parcel sometimes lands on the far side of the world — the Swap X/Y switch fixes it without editing the file.

More than one division line

With the manual method you are not limited to one line. Add another and the parcel splits into more parts; each line moves independently and the areas recompute at once.

Snapping to vertices

When you draw a line by hand, snapping catches the parcel's vertices and edges, so the cut starts exactly on the boundary rather than half a metre off it.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I import?

DXF, CSV/TXT, GeoJSON, KML and SHP. From a DXF the largest closed polyline is used; a CSV takes one boundary point per row as E,N, with an optional leading column for a name or number.

The parcel appeared in the wrong place on the map — why?

Almost always the coordinate system or swapped axes. Change the system at the import step or turn on Swap X/Y — many CAD and DXF files store northing and easting the opposite way round.

Can I split a parcel into more than two parts?

Yes. Splitting by count divides into N equal-area parts at once, and with the manual line method you can add several division lines to get as many parts as you need.

What does splitting by road access mean?

That every part receives an equal frontage along the edge you marked as the street, so each new parcel has its own access to the road. The cuts run perpendicular to that edge.

What form do the parts come out in?

In DXF the parts are sorted onto layers together with the division lines, in planar coordinates. CSV gives a table of parts, vertices and lines, while GeoJSON and KML give polygons in WGS84.
